Rochdale AFC Becomes One Of The First Football Clubs Of Sanctuary In The UK!

14 February 2024

Rochdale AFC is proud to announce, after its pledge to the City of Sanctuary last year, that it has become one of the UK's first Football Clubs of Sanctuary!

Hope Football, a weekly free initiative led by FA-qualified coaches from our RAFC Community Trust, takes place every Wednesday from 5-7 pm at RAFC's kick pitch, attracting 80 registered participants since its launch in June 2023.

With a consistent 30 attendees weekly, the session provides free, safe, and inclusive football experiences, specifically targeting refugees and those seeking sanctuary, and this is one of the reasons that we have won this award!

City by city, community by community, City of Sanctuary UK is building a more welcoming UK for people forced to flee their homes.

From community groups to schools and universities, local councils to libraries and theatres, City of Sanctuary UK works with individuals, groups, and organisations in every area and in every sector to encourage inclusivity, solidarity and compassion for people from a forced displacement background.

The Sanctuary Awards programme recognises exemplary work by organisations and institutions in showing welcome.
